Jobs at the Global Tiger Forum

The Global Tiger Forum (GTF) is an inter-governmental and international body, established with members from willing countries to promote joint programmes and mechanisms to save the remaining fiver sub-species of tigers in the wild distributed over 14 tiger range countries of the world. The GTF has developed a strategy and roadmap for the next five years which includes the facilitation of information sharing within and between range countries as well as raising the international profile of GTF. The Global Tiger Forum is also closely working with the Global Tiger Initiative (GTI) of the World Bank to monitor implementation of the Global Tiger Recovery Plan over the next year.

GTF is looking for dynamic and motivated individuals who can provide technical and monitoring support and develop, implement and manage a communications strategy that will support and enhance its role in global tiger conservation. This will involve working closely with the GTF Secretariat and partners in New Delhi and within India as well as across the GTF member countries and other tiger range States. The specific requirements and terms of the two positions are described below.

SECRETARY GENERAL

Essential Qualifications:

(i) Post Graduate degree in Forestry/Wildlife/Environmental Science/Management
(ii) Minimum work experience of 8 years in administration and management of tiger/wildlife conservation
(iii) Experience in and knowledge of policies and programmes of tiger conservation

Desirable Qualifications:

(i) Capability and exposure of managing and administering an organisation
(ii) Ability to mobilise resources
(iii) Experience in fund-raising
(iv) International, especially within South and South-East Asia,  exposure
(v) Ability to induct dynamism in the GTF, display leadership qualities, and be able to accept new challenges. Capability to work equally well with conservation groups and coordinate with government agencies and national and international institutions in fulfilling the objectives of tiger conservation.
(vi) As the role of the GTF is to provide an important platform for sharing knowledge amongst tiger range countries and in facilitating cross border cooperation on tiger conservation, the incumbent should have the qualities necessary to be a good team player, able to work remotely from those delivering on the ground conservation, both in conservation groups and increasingly importantly within national governments and their agencies.
(vii) Knowledge of International Conventions and Agreements related to wildlife conservation.

Method of Recruitment: The selection will be carried out by the Executive Committee.

Age: 45 to 62 years, preferably a mid-career person.

Term of Appointment: Three years (The position is performance based; any extension will be based on an evaluation carried out by the Executive Committee. No extension beyond the age of 65 years.)

TECHNICAL OFFICER FOR THE GLOBAL TIGER FORUM

Responsibilities

  • Support the GTF member states and other tiger range states (as necessary) with the monitoring of the Global Tiger Recovery Plan
  • Organise technical meetings and workshops related to the GTRP monitoring as well as other GTF-supported events
  • Identify opportunities for GTF to provide technical, coordination or experience sharing across range states
  • Support the implementation of the revised GTF strategy and roadmap
  • Prepare technical reports for projects and grants being implemented by the GTF

Essential Qualifications

  • Graduate/Diploma in Forestry/Ecology/Environmental Science/Management
  • Minimum work experience of 5 years in administration and management of tiger/wildlife conservation projects or programmes

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in monitoring of projects and programmes
  • Good understanding of tiger conservation needs and familiarity with working of tiger conservation set up in tiger range countries.
  • Necessary knowledge of the national and international legal framework affecting tiger conservation –basic national wildlife protection laws, international conventions etc.

COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER FOR THE GLOBAL TIGER FORUM

Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities for generating communication and outreach for GTF
  • Develop content for the GTF website and keep this updated and interactive
  • Prepare media releases and promotional material, including the organization’s newsletter
  • Carry out effective dissemination of information related to tiger conservation in the range States in consultation with GTF focal points in each country
  • Undertake the design and delivery of campaigns on tiger conservation related issues
  • Assist with the collation, development and dissemination of case studies related to best practice in tiger conservation
  • Assist with the sharing of results and outcomes from the monitoring and implementation of the GTRP

Essential Qualifications

  • Post Graduate degree preferably in Biological/Social Sciences, Mass Communications, Media or International Development.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the NGO or Private Sector working on communication, media or campaigns related issues.  
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to work independently and with people from various cultures/countries

Term of Appointment: One year.
